Latest Commission
This is my latest work. An old inuit man. My commission is almost done, just need to work a bit more on the foreground and add colour to the earring. (The wrinkles on the image is the protective plastic that I use to cover my work while handling several commissions at once.)
Below is the original image a 19thCentury sepia photograph.

Previous commission
I've been super busy and haven't had a chance to transfer photos of my current work so thought I'd post up a previous commission. This one's kind of popular and is something that I'm asked to reproduce on a regular basis for different clients.

New Portrait Commission Young Woman with Hands in her Hair
I've jumped into my next commission. The boyfriend of this young lady requested a portrait for his house. I've been given a photo to work from and I'm in the early stages of turning his image into a portrait. The final commission is to be 22"x30"
Here are a few images of the early stages and the original photo.
As usual I'll upload some more photos of my portrait process as the work continues.

Sylvia Shap Portrait Artist
I wanted to give Sylvia Shap a quick mention. Not only is she a wonderful portrait artist but she has a great talent for the use of color. In combinations, style and vivid but still subtle combinations. Something that I think that I could not do myself. A great and in my opinion an underated artists. Please do take the time to check out her portfolio here.

Commission Portrait African Woman with Beads in her Hair
I've just finished my latest commission. Managed to finish it with a strong flurry of labour. I think when you really get into a commission time really does seem to blur by.
The client asked for some highlighted details so I went with color on the jewellry- the amber beads in her hair and the piercings in her ear.
This commission portrait was a real pleasure to do. Wish I was handed more subjects like this to draw.

New Portrait Commission African Woman with Beads in her Hair
Malayka Gormally
I stumbled across Malayka Gormally recently while surfing for west coast portrait artists. Of the artwork she's got posted online I greatly admire her work with oils.
Going through her bio list of previous clients you can't but help notice that she's greatly appreciated.
Her work with younger subjects is without a doubt one of her strengths. You can take a look at Malayka Gormally's site here.
Her fees for oil portraits start at the $5,000 mark.

Finished!
Still juggling a huge amount of projects and deadlines but managed to finish the portrait for the young couple.
I'll be posting this later today to the client who wishes to frame it herself.
Right, on with the next project!

Portraiture Commission for Married Couple
New Portrait Commission
I've been given a new commission, a present for a young, newly married couple.
Black and white portrait 22"x30" of the two while out on their world travels.
I've a lot on my plate right now but I've made a start on the project and thought I'd upload the first couple of images.
I'll try to finish it this afternoon or by tomorrow morning if I can.

Melanie Phillips & Nicholas Beall
I was forwarded the website of pet-portraitartist.com as something to take a look at. I'm glad I took the time to browse their site. Both artists have a great ability to capture their subject's essence, in this case pets, without being clinical or gauche like so many other pet portrait artists.
Take a look at their wonderful site here.
Prices for a 30"x24" portrait start at 1,600 pounds sterling (approx $2,400) but is well worth it considering the quality of art. Also as a neat feature they also offer a framing service, something unusual in the online portrait business world.

Marvin Mattelson, Portrait Artist
I stumbled over Mattelson's work seven years ago. I love his instinctive style and perpetual ability to paint a person's character. Please do take a look at his biography here and do definitely take a sneak peak at his portfolio here. I think Mattelson has a lot to offer, his skill as a portrait artist speaks volumes.
Check out his attention to detail and the feel of his subjects! Exceptional!!
